Part 5 - Resting by Faith
Overview: Hardened Hearts
Synopsis
In the middle of Psalm 95 the tone changes, and the psalm turns from
speaking of faith in the Creator to addressing the issue of unbelief:
"Today, if you will hear His voice: Do not harden your hearts, as in the
rebellion, As in the day of trial in the wilderness." The people thirsted in
the wilderness and had no water. The rebellion of the people in this place
was their unbelief in God who was delivering them and their lack of trust
that He would provide for them. One trait of unbelief is unbelief in the
presence and character of God. The rebellion of the Israelites in the
wilderness shows these characteristics of unbelief. They did not trust in
God's power to deliver them, neither did they trust in His lovingkindness
toward them.
