Synopsis
The Second Commandment concerns creatures God created to fill the heavens, the earth, and the seas. Israel was not to make an image of these and serve them. The other nations served false gods, represented by dead images, but the living God was to be related to directly. The imitation of God's life and works violates the intent of the Second Commandment. Yahweh desires that one abide in His life through the Spirit. As a model of restoration, the Second Commandment concerns the soul of man. Man must repent from living apart from God and find life in the Holy Spirit, where God is all in all and due all glory.
