Part 3 - The Fall and the Restoration
The Rebellion of Man's Heart
At the center of the fall of man is the rebellion of his heart. The heart
of man is that place that his life revolves around. It is that which takes
precedence over all else. In the heart of man is a throne, and what or whom
he places there becomes his god. This is what he bows down to and worships.
This is what he willingly becomes a slave to.
Romans 6:16 states, "Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves
slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin
leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?" Adam and Eve
had the choice to obey God, place Him at the center of their lives, and
serve His will. Their choice was otherwise.
Serving sin
In the fall, Adam and Eve placed themselves in the center by a free will
choice and removed God from this rightful place of His. Their outright act
of disobedience demonstrated that they chose to place themselves on the
throne of their lives. Lucifer had said in his heart, "I will ascend into
heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on
the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will
ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High"
(Isaiah 14:13-14). In like manner, Adam and Eve also exercised an "I will."
The beguilement of the serpent was to "be like God." The act of directly
disobeying God shows that they placed themselves in God's place, rejecting a
place of submission to Him.
The actions of one reveal the heart. Thus the rebellion of Adam and Eve
is reflected in the areas related to their soul, mind, and strength. When
man fell in his heart, the rest of his makeup fell also, serving that which
became his god. Consider now the self-focused and self-serving nature of
these areas in the rebellion of the fall.
